PES 2018 may have struck a huge blow to FIFA after it has been announced that Konami will team up with Topps Trading Cards.
The rivalry between PES and FIFA has been long lived, as both games are two of the hottest football titles on the market.
The FIFA games generally dominate the market, with it being the first title to receive the official license from football world governing body, FIFA, way back in 1993.
PES is not licensed in the same way, so it usually has trouble keeping up with the EA’s smash hit title, however it does have virtual rights to the Champions League.
Konami looks like it is going to take advantage of this as it releases special limited edition Attax trading cards to gamers purchasing early copies of PES 2018.
Players and teams from next season’s Champions league competition will be the stars of these exclusive cards.
Apparently, this wont be available to everyone, as the number of available copies with the cards included will be limited.
Konami believe the move will extend their reach to new people, as a spokesperson said: “We are constantly looking for ways to extend awareness of the PES series to new audiences, and are delighted to be working with a UEFA Champions League partner of the calibre of Topps,”
“These collectible cards are huge with young football fans and they can be the first to get their hands on them before Topps officially releases their Match Attax range by purchasing PES 2018 at launch.”
Marketing Director for Topps, Rod Pearson agrees, saying ”PES 2018 will offer the definitive football gaming experience, and we are delighted to link our 2017/18 UEFA Champions League collection with such a strong partner.
“This year’s competition will be even more hard-fought and competitive than ever and the agreement between Topps and KONAMI showcases two very different ways to enjoy the progression of Europe’s greatest club sides.”
Trading cards aside, Konami’s next PES game looks set to be their most ambitious yet.
PES 18 boasts an upgrade to the much-loved Master League, Enhanced Visual Reality, and an improved multiplayer experience.
Although it will not officially release until September 15th this year, Konami will release an open beta on July 20th.
The game will be available on all major platforms, including PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
The official description of the game states that “The high quality gameplay PES is known for has been finely tuned, with the addition of contextual shielding to protect the ball and Real Touch+ adding a new dimension to ball control,”
“Complementing the fluid gameplay, set pieces have been reworked, including a new free-kick and penalty system. There’s also the option to start a match with the new one player kick-off.”
