IMG has won the global inflight and inship live media rights for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019 and the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017, including highlights from all three tournaments.

There will be extensive coverage on the IMG-owned and operated 24/7 live sports channels, Sport 24 and Sport 24 Extra, which will show the live action broadcast and highlights from all three tournaments as part of the exclusive match world-feed package.

Richard Wise, Senior Vice President, Content and Channels, IMG Media, said: “All three FIFA tournaments will be broadcast to the widest-ever inflight and inship audience through this historic new deal.

The FIFA World Cup in Russia will be the most watched sporting event of the year, and we are delighted that inflight and inship viewers will be able to see live coverage of every match and highlights too, as well as the culmination to this year’s FIFA Confederations Cup and the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2019.”

FIFA’s Chief Commercial Officer, Philippe Le Floc’h, said: “We are proud to work with such a prominent partner as IMG so that airline and cruise-line passengers can enjoy live action from FIFA’s flagship tournaments wherever they are in the world.

The remaining matches of the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017, as well as the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019, will be exciting celebrations of football that no fan should miss out on, whether they’re on land, in the air or at sea.”

Sport 24 also shows live action from the Premier League, the Bundesliga, NHL, NFL, UEFA Champions League, NBA, MotoGP, European Qualifiers to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, ATP Tennis Masters 1000s, 2017 British and Irish Lions Tour, America’s Cup, all four golf Majors and each of the tennis Grand Slams.

Launched in 2012, the channel is exclusively available across 13 airlines and nine cruise lines.

In 2016, IMG launched Sport 24 Extra in order to provide passengers with a choice of live events during busy periods in the sporting calendar.

Sport 24 and Sport24 Extra are available on aircraft equipped with Panasonic’s eXTV television network and using the company’s eXConnect in-flight Ku-band communications service. This provides live, uninterrupted content to aircraft flying all over the world, even over oceans.
